Lacoste took everyone at New York Fashion Week along for a trip to the ski slopes with their Fall 2016 collection inspired by the gear they once created for the 1966 French Olympic Ski team. Back then, the line was considered to be modernistic, but Felipe Oliveira Baptista has blown that term out of the water with his Fall 2016 collection.
He took the 60’s inspired ski-wear line and added contemporary elements to create a line worthy of the word ‘chic’. Though Felipe stays loyal to Lacoste’s sporty roots, he has innovated the their recent collections to be worn and admired in the worlds of street and high fashion.
The collection mixed casual and relaxed cotton fabrics with shearling jackets, patent leathers and over the knee retro boots to give the comfortable designs an edgy feel. Track suits took the runway by storm and were repeated throughout the show, making you feel cozy throughout its entire duration.
Filipe used mustard yellows, navy blues, pinks, teals and oranges to pay homage to a retro palette. Yet, with each new look came a futuristic innovation, whether it be sweaters with a peplum addition or an aerodynamic hi-lo shearling leather jacket.
The show was filled with celebrities, influencers, and the press who were all raving about the success of the show on the day of. In fact, I ran into a cafe after the show for a much needed pick-me-up and ran into three different influencers who couldn’t stop talking about the designs. It was one of my favourite shows to attend this season and was one of the most noteworthy. Felipe’s new AW16 collection took Lacoste to another level and will definitely be a popular choice among consumers and athletes next season. I can’t wait to see what they will do at the next Fashion Week, I have a feeling this one will be difficult to top!
