The Transat team really went above and beyond by making sure we were able to try as much as possible. They gave us the chance to really feel what it is like to travel with their luxury vacation packages first hand. I even had the opportunity to go snorkelling and try escargot! Things that I have always wanted to do but have never quite had the right opportunity to until this trip.
I have been getting so many questions about the places that we stayed, which ones were my favorite and which ones I would recommend. I’m going to talk a little bit about each one and tell you why each is unique, and then tell you about the ones that resonated with me the most.
Where we stayed:
We spent the first couple of days at The Finest Playa Mujeres. This hotel was just gorgeous. In fact, it’s one of the ones I loved the most. It was modern, clean and the food was amazing. One of my favorite parts about this resort was their adorable café called The Sweet Corner where you could get the perfect Cappuccino in the morning, complete with a side of gelato. All included. If you felt like a late night bite, you could stop by the resident food truck (which was actually a vintage VW van) and take something to go! After the Finest, we moved on to the Grand Velas Riviera Maya. This is the resort where I felt like I had the opportunity to unwind and really take in the environment around me. It’s the perfect place to take your family or your spouse when you want to unwind and get away from your busy life. In fact, there is an entire section of the resort dedicated to Zen and it happens to be situated in an actual jungle, complete with monkeys! The other side of the resort is right on the waterfront of one of the prettiest beaches I have seen in Mexico. It was well maintained, crowd-free and it had the most beautiful white sand. **sigh**
The food at the Grand Velas was also to die for, they had the BEST martini and this is also where I got to try escargot for the first time! Click HERE to find out more about the Grand Velas!
I was so sad to leave the Grand Velas, but my sadness quickly shifted to excitement when we made it to the Azul Fives. The Azul Fives is an affordable luxury resort that makes you feel alive the minute you step foot onto the property. The amenities, the families and the energy of the resort is just up-lifting. It literally has EVERYTHING you could possibly need. Including a Starbucks, a fresh juice bar and a gin bar.
I can’t even tell you how beautiful the Sky Suites were. As soon as you walk in you feel right at home, the room is a fully functional suite with the most gorgeous décor and a bed that I spent more time in than I should admit. You also have your own terrace that overlooks the jungle which is large enough for you to invite all of your family and friends up for a rooftop party! Where we visited:
Although we didn’t have the opportunity to stay at Secrets, we had a great time here for the day. This resort was Adults only, making it the perfect stay for a honeymoon or for a getaway with your friends. It had a rooftop infinity pool that overlooked the ocean and walkout access to the beach. What I really loved the most though, was the wine tasting. I have been to a LOT of wine tastings in my time. I actually really love experiencing them, and learning about wines wherever I travel. The Sommelier at Secrets was one of the best I’ve seen. He knew how to keep the table’s attention, how to create the perfect pairing and how to educate you and challenge you to find the notes in each wine. He was also pretty funny, so there’s that! Zoetry was a secluded resort on the beautiful Isla Mujeres. We had the opportunity to spend an entire day here, exploring the resort and the rest of the little Island. This place is another great location for a private getaway and perfect for a honeymoon. It feels completely authentic and serene just being there. You know you won’t be interrupted or disturbed and the word “peaceful” doesn’t even do it justice. Every suite overlooks the ocean and is visible right from your bed. Like the Zoetry, the El Dorado Maroma is one of the most beautiful and secluded places you can stay in Mexico.
The Maroma Beach is consistently named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the El Dorado is in the centre of it. It’s also the only location in Mexico with Over Water Bungalow Suites, also called Palafitos. These Palafito suites are completely private for each guest and have their own private infinity pool that overlooks one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. They also have Glass-floor bottoms so that you can admire that gorgeous blue water right within your suite! Click here to find out more about the beautiful El Dorado Maroma.
If I was getting married and I wanted to go somewhere for a bachelorette or bachelor party, without having to sacrifice style, this place would be it. The resort is probably one of the coolest places I have seen yet. Each section has its own pool and each pool is something you just won’t find anywhere else in Mexico. Picture all glass infinity pools that are a mile long, lined with fire at night, floating beds and a luxury sit down bar that is literally INSIDE the pool. What makes it the best place for a bachelorette or a bachelor party? Simple, the parties. Complete with celebrity DJ’s and foam. There’s also an entire pool bar dedicated to Veuve Clicquot! Recommendation: Make sure you upgrade your flight to Option Plus, for $100 more you can cut the lines at the airport, get priority seating and be welcomed with champagne, a comfort kit and free snacks and meals!
Trust me, when you get to the airport to head home from Mexico, you will DEFINITELY want to bypass those lines….they are some of the worst!
