About a month ago (May 2nd to be exact) I bruised all of the ligaments in my right knee. My first knee injury and thank God it wasn’t too serious. I wouldn’t want to ruin my futbol (soccer) career just yet!
After four weeks off, I finally went for a good mid-distance run and all I can say is how badly I missed it. Most runners know of the runner high and the addiction that comes along with it so I know they understand my pain when I say 4 weeks is a LONG time. I took it slow, enjoyed the nice sunny day and people watched as I ran along the very busy Seawall. I don’t recommend running on a nice sunny evening along the wall unless you like being bombarded with people. Although the people watching can be entertaining, I get a little annoyed with having to wait for 5-10 people to slowly walk past while trying to run. Half of the time they don’t even hear you coming up behind you so you’re stuck behind them until you can muster up the courage to yell “excuse me”.
Crowded-wall aside, I loved this run. The feeling of getting back into it after an injury is so rewarding that I could have kept going all night if I didn’t have the fear of over-doing it. Nevertheless, I am excited to get back into my routine and push myself to new distances as I train for my next marathon!
