Haute Chiconomics is a fresh and fun way to buy and sell all things fashion. They are the first in the Calgary area to offer a personalized consignment service that focusses on providing an experience that will keep you coming back for more. “We want people to think of Haute Chiconomics as a lifestyle – not just a place to buy and sell.”
Haute Chiconomics was founded by two sisters – Joanna and Jessica Doan. Joanna Doan holds Bachelors of Commerce in Accounting from Concordia University in Montreal and is currently working as an Accountant. Jessica Doan holds two degrees – a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and a Bachelors of Arts in International Relations. Jessica is currently working as a strategic planner. These sisters have an immense passion for fashion, food, travel and all other ingredients that make for a fabulous lifestyle. “Haute Chiconomics is our passion project above and beyond our 9 to 5 and a place for us to have fun doing the things we love with each other.”
How did it all begin? “There were a lot of things that really encouraged us to start Haute Chiconomics. We firmly believe that you don’t need to spend big to be stylish and look like a million dollars. We want to make women feel fashionable and fabulous without the high end prices, make selling previously owned goodies as effortless as possible by doing all the work for you, we want to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry, and aim to change the negative connotation attached to the idea of consignment.”
This positive vision is part of the reason we love these girls and what they do. That vision keeps them going but the reward comes when they meet people who are extremely excited about what they do. “After we first launched, our first debut to the world was the Inglewood Night Market in September. It was extremely rewarding and a lot of fun to meet all the people who came by and gave us nothing but positive feedback and genuine excitement for our new venture. It was very encouraging and pushed us to work harder.”
Hard work seems like a bit of an understatement. “Haute Chiconomics has been a huge learning process for the both of us – every day we learn something new and every day we are trying to figure out the best way to map out our vision for the business. Our biggest struggle has been to get the word out there and really reach those who will find a lot of value in what we do. Like we said earlier, we want to market ourselves in a way that resembles the lifestyle behind our business and not just an exchange of cash and garter. Neither of us comes from a marketing background so it’s a work in progress but we are having a lot of fun in the meantime. ”
These girls are more than inspirational and their vision is an important piece to the foundation of what they do and is sure to play a factor in their success. If you haven’t had the chance to see what these girls have to offer, check them out on their website and see a glimpse of what’s in store!
