Blogging is becoming incredibly popular these days but it has always been tricky for people to get started. Afterall, there are so many different components and those of us who have been doing it for a while can vouch for how difficult it can be to get going. In an effort to continue to try to make your life easier, I’ve included some easy steps on how to start a blog below.
1. Find your Niche
What do you want your blog to be about? Is it something you are truly passionate about? Will you be able to write about topics within your chosen niche going forward? These are all questions you may want to consider when starting a blog. Content is very important and it should be something you care about so that you can engage your audience, and continue to write on it as you go!
2. Name Your Blog
What ever you do, don’t jump into this one! Make sure you take your time deciding what name you would like for your blog. I chose Living Boldly because this blog was originally created to promote people in my city who were chasing their dreams or living differently, eventually it just morphed into how I was living my own dreams and how I was trying to live differently!
I once watched an interview from Jaycee Dupree on how she wished she thought twice calling herself Damsel in Dior because she could eventually run into issues if she ever considering writing a book because of Dior copyrights. It’s not something most of us will have to worry about, but its definitely something to think about if you would like your blog to be an important part of your life!
3. Choose Your Platform
I personally use WordPress.org as my platform, but Blogger is another popular choice among others. It’s run by Google which makes it a little more user friendly for those who are just starting out and may not be as techy as others. I did find that WordPress.org was a little bit tricky to set up and get used to when I first started out.
4. Buy your Domain
This is what your website address will be. For example, I bought www.livingboldly.ca through Go Daddy! They are my favorite because you can call them 24/7 and their team is usually great with supporting you with any technical questions you may have when you set up.
5. Choose Your Blog Theme
How do you want your design to look? I would recommend looking at some other blogs that you follow to get a feel for a design you might be looking for before selecting your theme. Your theme will probably change as you grow, but it’s a good idea to brainstorm!
Once you have an idea of what you like, you can head to websites like ThemeForest, Elegant Themes or Studio Press to shop for free or premium themes. Premium themes usually offer you more flexibility and support and are something I would definitely recommend!
6. Start Blogging
There are still many components to getting your blog off the ground that we will go over in upcoming posts, but for the most part you should be ready to go! Start posting content and watch your readers pour in!
